Making Continual Progress
One of the things that is really important to me is continual progress.
I want to be continually making progress towards my goals, towards my dreams and achieving my vision for my life.
When it comes to my bucket list I want to be continually working on something that gets me closer to my bucket list goals.
I have a few things on my list that are long term goals.
Some are reading all the books from some of favourite authors. This can not be accomplished, in a week or a month.
It takes longer than year in most cases. To accomplish these goals I need to work out:
- When I want to achieve them and
- How much progress I need to be making each month.
This is the only way of that I know of that is effective in achieving goals.
If I don’t have an end date, it is far too easy to give up on doing something each month. Conversely if I have a big goal, if I don’t have set progress requirements I know I’ll just keep putting it off until it never gets done.
I usually break monthly goals into smaller weekly goals because then I find it much easier to slot them into a spare spot in my calendar which ensures that they get done.
Then at the end of the week, month and year I can see how much progress I have made.
However, it must be continual. It’s no good to me to work flat out on something for one week but to ignore it for the other 51 weeks of the year.
When I saw 100 movies last year I didn’t leave it until the last month to watch 100 movies! That would be crazy. No. I worked out how many I needed to see a week and worked towards that, constantly revising my weekly and monthly goals depending on what I had achieved.
So this year, do you have goals that you want to achieve?
And more importantly, do you have a plan in place so you can make continual progress, to achieving it?
Remember, life is a journey, enjoy it!
